Write about a time when you realized that your perception of a person or group was based on stereotypes. How did this realization affect your behavior or beliefs? What steps did you take to change your perceptions?

Honestly, I realized this in class on Tuesday when I was reading the article. I know this is not right or good, but I had always been taught to believe that Africa is a very poor continent, and that everyone is struggling for basic supplies. Books like A Long Walk to Water and Things Fall Apart instigated this stereotype. In addition, this is the common theme represented in television, movies, and media. After reading the article, I am working hard to reeducate myself to have a more accurate world view.  Today in class people began a presentation. I was not in class this day, due to the fact that I was on a field trip, but I have started the assignment and I am going to finish it tonight.

Write a blog post reflecting on a time when you or someone you know was misunderstood because of a single story. How can limiting ourselves to one perspective be harmful? What can we do to make sure we see people and cultures more fully?

I know someone who is Asian, and people often assume that her family is like Crazy Rich Asians. This is negative, because it assumes that everyone is over the top and very wealthy. This comedic view on the culture is not what it is actually like, and when people believe it, they lose out on large amounts of the culture. In addition, there are many different cultures in Asia, and this movie makes it seem like everyone is the same.  Today we completed a Common Lit on the dangers of a single story. I had never thought about the impact that this has, so I am very interested to learn more.

Discuss how mastering precise vocabulary can impact your daily communication and academic success.

Having a more precise and sophisticated vocabulary can impact communication in many ways. First, it can make you seem smarter, which will benefit you in the work force, interviews, and day-to-day life. In addition, it will allow you to better understand what people are saying, and how to work well with others. Lastly, it will increase your confidence and understanding of the world around you.  Today in class we worked through vocabulary lesson 14. The word that stood out most to me was pandemic, but this was because of my large amounts of exposure to the word. I am working very hard to get my grade back up to an A, even if it is a lost cause at this point.

Today’s article discussed how more people are choosing to live in the suburbs rather than in the city. When you become an adult, which lifestyle do you think you would prefer—city life or suburban life? Choose one and explain your reasons clearly.

I think I would do much better in the city than in the suburbs. The first reason for this is I want to be a doctor, and the best hospitals are in the city. I also think politically I would fit in better in a major city, and I love using public transportation. My dream is to end up living in a major city, such as New York or LA, because I love the feeling of busy cities. Today in class we did a Common Lit on city life versus suburban life. I really enjoy common lits, because I feel that really help me with my reading for comprehension skills.

Based on the two informational passages that you've read thus far this week, write about how you will personally strive to avoid student loan debt?

I have to be honest, I don't know if it will be possible for me to completely avoid student debt, but my goal is to avoid it through undergrad. I want to be a doctor, so I have to not only pay for college, but then med school after that. I have been fortunate enough to receive many different scholarships, to the point that I can have my undergrad debt free. This is very important to me, because I can save up for med school while I am there to try and avoid too much debt. Today in class we learned about student debt. I am very worried about college debt, but I have a major and career that it is required for.

Choose a vocabulary word that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

One word from vocabulary lesson 13 that really resonates with me is nirvana. I love the idea of peace, and especially after the show, this is more important than ever. When the show ended, I struggled to find peace, because I had lost something that I started working on in May of last year, so this is very important to me. Today in class we read and analisized different vocabulary words. I love expanding my vocabulary with vocabulary mondays.

Write about a time when your failure was necessary for your growth. Examples of failures could be failing a major exam, failure to make a team, failure in a relationship, etc.

Honestly, I think I am experiencing this right now. I am struggling academically more than I ever have before, and it is due to a lack of motivation and personal stuff that has been distracting me and pulling my mind in a negative way. I think it was important for me to experience that before I went to college, but it is difficult to pull myself out of the hole I have created. Today in class we finished discussion questions, then I used my remaining time to catch up on this week's blogs. If you have any extra credit opportunities I can utilize to make up my missing blog posts, I would greatly appreciate it, but I understand if that is not an option.

In both texts that you read, the line between reality and imagination blurs—the narrator sees a woman in the wallpaper, while Dickinson’s speaker feels their own funeral happening in their mind. Have you ever had an experience where stress, fear, or emotions made something feel distorted or unreal? How did you ground yourself in reality again?

I actually experience this a lot. With ADHD, I get lost in my imagination and it gets blurry. It is often difficult to separate the two, and the best tip I have to help is medication.  Today in class we read and analyzed a poem by Emily Dickinson, then began 16 discussion questions about the yellow wallpaper, which we continued the next day.

Choose a word from Vocabulary Lesson 12. In at least one paragraph, define the word in your own words and explain where you encountered it. Describe how understanding this word helps improve your communication or writing skills.

One word from the vocabulary lessons that I encounter the most is  microscopic. I use this word often, because my favorite subjects all look at things at a microscopic level. I describe this word as "the smallest level things can be, based on their molecular level". There is something oddly comforting to me about how everything is built upon the same things microscopically. Today in class people looked at Vocabulary lesson 12 and answered questions about it. I was home sick that day, but I did complete it. I am locking back in with my blogs get hype I'm gonna get back to my A :)

Write about a time you felt you were losing your mind

It really annoys me when people talk when I am teaching, and it has been particularly difficult in the process of Matilda. People love to talk, which is great, but it is not great when I am teaching, and it is especially wrong when it is talking about how much they dislike me as a teacher. This makes me feel like I am losing my mind, because I feel like I am not being heard. Today in class we read and discussed The Yellow Wallpaper , a short story about someone who is losing her mind. We only have 3 more days until our Shuler night, which is the night that we are adjudicated for the Shuler awards. This is very big for me because I am eligible for 3 different individual awards, and I am extremely stressed about it. I really hope it goes well, and that we shine as much as we did last year.

As we think about Vocabulary Monday, tell me what is your favorite word RIGHT NOW? Why is it your faovorite word and how often do you use it?

My favorite word is Party! I use it whenever I am expressing my excitement about things, and it makes me happy. I use it so often it is my senior quote. It was also the theme of the surprise party the theater troupe threw me when I won the major award this year! Today in class we looked at vocabulary lesson 11, and we worked on using it in a practical use. My life is super busy with the musical right now, but I am trying hard to keep up with my work. You should come see Matilda me and Lucy are both in it, and I choreographed it!
