Poster Presentation

Today in class we presented the posters we worked on last week. We had to write a poem about our culture, then make a poster exemplifying the cultural element we highlighted. I chose to subject mine about gender, and specifically the generational shifts in relation to this.  I am very active in my feminist fight, but in my family, my mother was the first one to start this fight. I tried to reflect that in this poem. When writing it, I felt connected with everyone who came before me, specifically in the suffrage fight. Today was a very important day for me, because I was able to vote for the first time. I felt connected to those who fought for this, and I am living my life to live on their legacy.  I really enjoyed this assignment, and I feel more connected to my culture because of it. I might not agree with my family on everything, but I know they all love me, and I reflected that in the piece.  Link to poem - Ashley DeLange 10/30/24

Poster Project

Offensive terms

Today in class we discussed a poem about offensive terms, reflected on what terms are offensive to us, and finished a poem based on this. I was able to truly reflect on what hurts me and the power that my words have. I appreciated the depth of today’s lesson and the thought that went into covering such a difficult conversation. I have had a good day and I am very excited for my shows this weekend!

Poem analysis

Today in class we read and analyzed a poem by Langston Hughes. This poem led to a lot of personal reflection over my roots and how I can better connect to them and learn about them. I liked what we did in class, but I am stressed about time on the poem project. I have a very busy weekend because of the theater competition and hoco, but I am very excited for all of it!

Kahoot

Today in class we played a Kahoot. It was a great activity and I really enjoyed it. I learned more about current events, but I did not win which was sad. I am very excited for the game tonight!!!

Cultural Poem

Today in class we began our cultural poems. I wrote mine about being a woman and I enjoyed this personal reflection. I am struggling to write it, but I am enjoying this personal reflection. Today was a good day, but I over slept and was tired.

New York!

For fall break I went to my favorite place in the world, New York City! I love New York because of the people, the food, and most importantly the shows. I went to 6 shows this year which is the most I’ve ever seen in one trip! I was able to see my celebrity crush Kit Conner on stage, and it was truly amazing. I also got to meet Neil Patrick Harris, go to the players club, and go to the live taping of The View. It was a great trip!

Project work day and Test

Today in class we took our test and finished our projects. I am able to further learn about characterization, which is helping me to better understand characters. I enjoy this project, and I have been able to bond with my classmates while doing it. Today has been a good day but I am very very very busy.

Project Work Day

Today in class, we began working on our Fences project. I am doing a trashcan analysis of the character Rose, so I use the text to predict what she would have in her trashcan. With this project, I am able to better reflect on the character of Rose as a whole. I am having a difficult time with this project, simply because I am tired, but tonight after my nap I think it will go a lot better. I have had a long day, but I am excited because I have a chorus concert tonight.

Finishing Fences

Today in class we finished reading fences and we discussed it. I was fascinated by the book ending, and it gave me a new perspective into the character of Troy. It really taught me the importance of getting multiple views on a specific subject. I enjoyed class today, and I am excited about starting the new project. I had a good day and I am very excited about fall break because I am going to New York.

Fences

Today in class we read and discussed some scenes from Fences. I was able to put myself in the shoes and reflect on what I would do in the event that I was one of the characters. I enjoyed class today because I love plays! Today I am working and I am very excited for the weekend!!!

Act two scene one and Scenarios

Today in class we started with presenting our characterization posters, then we read act two scene one, then we finished with putting ourselves in the shoes of the characters and answered questions about real life situations. I learned in this process, that I am very similar to Rose, because she stands up for herself in situations where many people wouldn't, but she is also known for her hard working attitude and kind spirit. I enjoyed class today, because in learning more about the characters we are able to better understand the rest of the book. I am very excited for today because I do not have any plans so I am going to binge watch Heartstopper to get ready for season 3.

Characterization poster day two

Today in class we finished our characterization posters about our character from fences. I am learning more about the development and arc of rose in this process. I enjoyed today’s assignment, and I learned that I should never be in charge of a drawing again. I am excited for today because I have work and I got a bunch of candy to celebrate the fact that I led my theater troupe to be the highest level of excellence.
