Today in class we presented the posters we worked on last week. We had to write a poem about our culture, then make a poster exemplifying the cultural element we highlighted. I chose to subject mine about gender, and specifically the generational shifts in relation to this. I am very active in my feminist fight, but in my family, my mother was the first one to start this fight. I tried to reflect that in this poem. When writing it, I felt connected with everyone who came before me, specifically in the suffrage fight. Today was a very important day for me, because I was able to vote for the first time. I felt connected to those who fought for this, and I am living my life to live on their legacy. I really enjoyed this assignment, and I feel more connected to my culture because of it. I might not agree with my family on everything, but I know they all love me, and I reflected that in the piece. Link to poem - Ashley DeLange 10/30/24
