Poster Presentation

Today in class we presented the posters we worked on last week. We had to write a poem about our culture, then make a poster exemplifying the cultural element we highlighted. I chose to subject mine about gender, and specifically the generational shifts in relation to this.

I am very active in my feminist fight, but in my family, my mother was the first one to start this fight. I tried to reflect that in this poem. When writing it, I felt connected with everyone who came before me, specifically in the suffrage fight. Today was a very important day for me, because I was able to vote for the first time. I felt connected to those who fought for this, and I am living my life to live on their legacy.

I really enjoyed this assignment, and I feel more connected to my culture because of it. I might not agree with my family on everything, but I know they all love me, and I reflected that in the piece.

What do you believe is the most beautiful creation in the world—natural or man-made—and why?

I believe the most beautiful creation in the world is waterfalls. There's something so magical about the cascading water and the way it falls on the rocks below. They truly show me the scale of the Earth, and how small I am in comparison to everything. I can't see them and not thank God for everything he does. Today in class we read the poem Tyger and answered questions about it. I really enjoyed this poem, especially in regards to Earth Day. I am going to the aquarium with my friends for a yoga class today and I am very excited.

What life skills have you learned in high school that will help you live independently after high school? Which skills do you think are essential for your success after high school?

One skill that I have learned in high skill that will help me live independently after high school is how to be assertive. I used to be very scared to speak my mind and enact change, but with the help of theater, I have learned how to speak my mind and be true to myself. I actually was presented an award from Georgia Thespians this weekend, for being the top theater maker of the year, and I am so honored. I think this will help me when I grow up because I will be able to make change happen, and I can speak my truth.  Today in class we had a newsELA where we learned about the Bill of Rights. It was super interesting, and I am excited to learn more.

Imagine it's the year 2050. What does the world look like? How have technology, society, and the environment changed?

In the year 2050, I hope that technology is improving the way the world is running. I feel like there will be new ways that people communicate that we cannot even begin to imagine with our current technology. I feel like AI will help many businesses, and it will be commonly used in everyday life, just like the phone is now. I hope that there will be a better environment than there is now, otherwise we are in trouble. I also hope that there is a positive push towards equality for everyone.  Today in class we read more of the Color Purple and answered questions about it. Also, I apologize for this being late. My brother broke his ankle last night, and I had to take him to urgent care. I am thriving on about 2 hours of sleep.
